Our Produce
Fresh.
Nutritious.
Tasty.
Local farm fresh produce has more nutrient density than produce sold at a grocery store. This is because fruits and vegetables begin to lose their nutrients within 24 hours after they are picked! The produce sold in supermarkets arrives before it is ripe. They are harvested early so they won’t spoil in transit. Nutritional content is also lost through air exposure, artificial lighting, and temperature changes.
However, locally grown food is harvested at the peak of ripeness and nutritional value and arrives at your table immediately. Your CSA box, full of freshly picked seasonal produce, avoids losing nutrient density because our farmers can let their produce “stay on the vine” to peak ripeness. Produce is harvested and delivered to you without any transportation delays. The result is healthier, tastier food.
Tips.
Because our natural, farm fresh produce is delivered on the day it is picked, it will need to be refrigerated or it will spoil more quickly than produce delivered to a supermarket.
Farm fresh eggs do not need to be refrigerated because they come to you unwashed. Unwashed eggs have a protective layer called a cuticle (also referred to as the bloom) and can be stored on the counter. This protective coating works by sealing the shell’s pores and preventing air from penetrating it, helping to keep bacteria out. Washing eggs removes the cuticle. So, wash the eggs right before you use them but otherwise you can leave them on the counter and they will last about three weeks. If you don’t eat them first.
Fresh & Healthy
Picking our produce at the peak of freshness adds beneficial nutrients and antioxidants. Our produce isn’t shortchanged by early harvesting and long-distance shipping.
